In the distant past the human race forgot the true name of their true God. To replace the great loss, they worshiped heroes and ideas they created themselves. To honor these new gods they created totems and bound the spirits to them. These totems became their gods and each tribe and people had several of their own. An empire rose from the varied tribes on the Great Plains. Named for their first King, Assar the Great, the great Empire of Assarisan grew to rule all the tribes of the plains.

To secure their rule, they held captive the gods of their enemies by capturing their totems. The Clerics of Assar kept watch over the totems. Without worshipers the totem-gods went insane, just waiting for their moment of freedom.

To live forever, the Assarisan god-king Assar demanded to be worship by the peoples of the plains. Using secret knowledge, Assar made his body a living totem and attained immortality. But now the Empire has fallen to a horde of Centaurs and allies from the North. The horde and their god, the Wild Hunt now rule the plains.

The god-king Assar vanished in the fighting. His totem collection might have been destroyed in the battle. The destroyed totems would, free a wave of insane gods across the world.

To discover the truth a band of adventures has set off across the plains. They will return to the Capital City and discover if the totems were destroyed. If they were, then the world is in the gravest of danger.
